How Typing Metrics Are Calculated
Words Per Minute (WPM)
In typing speed tests, a "word" is standardized as exactly 5 keystrokes (including letters, spaces, and punctuation). This prevents passages with longer words from artificially lowering your score compared to passages with short words.
WPM = (Correct Keystrokes / 5) / Time (min)
Typing Accuracy
Calculates the percentage of correct entries compared to your total keystrokes (both correct inputs and corrected backspaces). Correcting mistakes with Backspace restores your accuracy, but backspaces are counted in keystrokes efficiency.
Accuracy % = (Correct Keys / Total Keys) * 100
Characters Per Minute (CPM)
Counts the raw correct characters typed per minute. Unlike WPM, CPM represents your net keystroke speed without normalizing them into blocks of 5, showing your absolute letter-by-letter speed directly.
